Bernard Donaghy (23 December 1882 – 1 July 1916)[1] was an Irish footballer, whose regular position was as an inside forward. He was born in Derry, and played for Derry Celtic, Manchester United, Glentoran, and Burnley. He also made one international appearance for Ireland, playing against Scotland at the Balmoral Showgrounds in 1902.[1] During the First World War he was a soldier in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers regiment of the British Army.[2] He was killed in the first day of fighting at the Battle of the Somme.[3]
